Sustainable Events at U of T
In 2024, the Sustainability Office at the St. George campus launched the Sustainable Change Programs, offering resources and support to advance sustainability best practices across the university. These programs engage and empower U of T students, staff and faculty to integrate sustainable practices into offices, laboratories and—most importantly—event planning.
Why Sustainable Events Matter
Events are a vibrant part of campus life, from lectures and conferences to fairs and celebrations. Through the Sustainable Event Certification Program, these gatherings become more than just moments on the calendar — they become opportunities to model climate-conscious and environmentally responsible choices.
By adopting sustainable event practices—such as reducing waste, choosing eco-friendly catering and designing energy-efficient setups—organizers help embed sustainability into the daily experience of the U of T community. This not only reduces the environmental footprint of individual events but also strengthens the Campus Events & Conference Services portfolio by positioning U of T as a leader in sustainable campus programming.
