Sustainability Programs

The Campus Events & Conference Services team champions sustainability by weaving eco-conscious practices into every stage of event planning. From reducing waste and using reusable materials to prioritizing digital communications, we help organizers host greener events. Working alongside the Sustainability Office, we support initiatives such as Sustainable Event Certification and the Lanyard Rental Program—empowering organizers to lower their environmental impact and advance U of T’s climate goals.

Sustainable Event Certification
The Sustainable Events Program, developed by the Sustainability Office and Facilities & Services, provides event organizers with tools, best practices and a certification pathway to make campus gatherings more environmentally responsible. The program emphasizes sustainable logistics—such as waste reduction, eco-friendly catering and digital-first communication—helping transform conferences, lectures, fairs and celebrations into climate-positive experiences while embedding sustainability into everyday campus life.
Lanyard Rental
To cut down on single-use waste, the Lanyard Rental Program offers organizers the option to rent reusable lanyards for campus events. This simple change reduces event-related waste and contributes to a more sustainable campus culture.

Green Event Materials & Practices
The University of Toronto is committed to going beyond carbon neutrality by reducing more greenhouse gases than it emits, aligning its actions with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Campus Events & Conference Services supports this mission by offering practical guidance on waste reduction, sustainable material sourcing and eco-friendly event planning—helping organizers design events that reflect U of T’s sustainability values.
